Today I watched the World Cup final between Italy and Germany. It turned out to be a great game. For some reason, I was cheering for Italy to win and they did in penalty kicks.
It’s too bad Zinedine Zidane decided to do what he did to get sent off. And then he ends up winning the FIFA Golden Ball award as the outstanding player of the tournament. I lost all the respect I had for him when he headbutted the Italian player in the chest (youtube video).
I enjoyed the tournament a lot. Some of the games were great. Italy ended up being a great team to watch. The worse team to watch was Portugal. To me they seemed dirty.
I really have a problem with the way these players “dive”. In other words, they totally fake being fouled to get free kicks and possibly a yellow card for the opposing team. But the athletes usually look silly doing so. I think if they continued trying, something good may happen. Some games I almost turned off because of the diving. I understand its a sort of gamesmanship and what they are trying to do, but some players are out of hand and look silly doing it.
