My Email Was Gone After Thunderbird Upgrade

Earlier I complained my bookmarks weren’t where I expected after upgrading Firefox. Well, my Thunderbird client also upgraded and after restarting, it asked me to setup my email accounts. That freaked me out. I didn’t want to lose all my email.

After some investigating, my profile was still alright. For some reason, Thunderbird wanted to create new accounts and not use the ones I already had setup. I was able to change the local directory to where my old archives were in account settings. Profile restored. I have since added my email profile to my backup plan. Why is wasn’t there before I have no idea.

Why is this happening to these Mozilla products? I love using them. If this continues I would prefer performing the upgrades myself instead of it happening automatically. That way I can decide when I want the inconvenience.
Has it happened to others out there?

Before I upgraded it, I backed up the data. So I ended up restoring the backup. Since then I have moved to gmail only. I like it a lot since I can access it on any computer or device.
