I Watch Less TV With A DVR

So I notice a lot of debate going on lately about whether consumers watch more or less TV when they use a DVR. Personally, I think I watch less TV.

Since I have gotten my TiVo two years ago (I remember the day well), I have been able to watch shows that I always wanted to watch but never took the time to do so. However, I do so much less surfing and I hardly watch sports, unless it is an event that I have recorded. I can’t watch something without it being recorded (with few exceptions). I am more efficient at watching TV now.

Do you watch more or less TV? And if you don’t have a DVR, why?

I watch more TV in less time. There are some shows I probably wouldn’t watch if I didn’t have a DVR. This week, for instance, I’ve watched almost all of the Discovery Channel’s Shark Week programming. It’s a few hours of stuff each night, and I’ve watched all that I’ve wanted to see in about 90 minutes each night. Without a DVR I would have probably picked the one I wanted to watch most and spent only an hour watching it. But then I have to sit through the boring parts too. Why not get a DVR and watch the best of everything in a fraction of the time?

I can watch everything I want to and not waste my whole life doing it.
