Today, I got scared that I would someday lose data on my computer such as email and digital photos. I don’t like to think of what would that be like. So I finally decided to try a remote backup service.
A while back I had heard of a local company called Berkeley Data Systems that started a remote backup service called Mozy. With the fear in me, I passed up on researching other companies and just started to use this service. Up to this point, I am pretty satisfied.
After signing up for an account, I was given 2 GB of free storage. I also had to download an app to run on my Windows PC. This app allows you to select the files that you want backed up. It does a pretty good job of finding the files that you most likely need backed up, such as email, music, photos, etc. You can then decide on all the files to backup.
The desktop tool allows you schedule backups as well. When these are performed, only the changed files or folders will be backed up. The files are encrypted as they are uploaded and can easily be restored.
I can also increase my quota from 2 GB to 5, 30 or 60 GB for a very resonable price at any time. Also, the free 2 GB includes an email newsletter with advertising, a small price to pay for peace of mind.
Mozy also offers a referral program. If I refer a friend, I get a free 256 MB added on to my account. So please use my referral code to sign up for this wonderful service.
