This weekend I finally was able to get my Nintendo Wii. Being the Nintendo fanboy that I am, I waited in line for 4.5 hours in freezing weather at a Target store.
So it was cold and I was not prepared for it. Here are a list of things that I was continuously hoping for as I was waiting. Hopefully I will be able to help others who decide to do the wait in the freezing cold weather for a Wii or whatever else.
- Make sure you put way more than necessary on your extremeties. Multiple pairs of gloves on the hands. Multiple pairs of socks on the feet. I had a thin pair of leather gloves and one pair of regular socks. Needless to say this was not enough.
- Wear more than one shirt, a jacket and a winter coat. I did have three shirts on and winter coat. Still could have used more.
- Keep the blood flowing. Run in place. Pace a short distance. About halfway through my wait, I was about to give up. But after getting the blood flowing a little, I was able to withstand it.
- Bring a comfortable chair to sit on. Standing gets old after a while but it makes running in place to keep your blood flowing.
- Bring a warm blanket or two to wrap yourself in. This would be very beneficial with the chair.
- Bring the tunes (or the podcasts) to listen to. You need something to entertain yourself with. And to think I thought I was going to play my Nintendo DS while waiting.
- Don’t answer the phone no matter who it’s from. My wife called me. I had to take off my gloves to answer the phone. That got me real cold and then I struggled to get warm after that.
- Wear the obvious beanie. I wear one all the time to cover my bald head most of the time in the winter so this wasn’t a problem.
There you have it. Sometimes it is necessary to wait in the freezing cold to get what you need. Did I miss anything?
I really wanted to play it when I got home. My hands would not have made it. And we are waiting to open it for a family Christmas gift. I can’t wait until Christmas this year. It had better be worth it!
Am I crazy to go these lengths to get a Nintendo Wii? What would you do for a Wii at this point?

Congratulations on getting your Wii, Josh. I’m impressed that you found one. I heard they were going to be pretty much impossible to get before Christmas unless you got one for some crazy price on Ebay or something. I’m going to have to play that Wii after Christmas to see if I need one too. Just as long as no one throws the controllers through our giant TV… we’ll play at your house, just to be safe.
After talking to Shauna- I think I want one!! You can get all the old school games AND the old school controller too?? Plus, I’ve seen the commercial and I think it’s cool that you can ACTIVELY participate in the game- get some exercise in! Looks like fun- you’ll have to tell us how awesome it really is once you play it. Are you really going to be able to wait till Christmas??
Wish we lived closer so I could come over and challenge Shauna to a game of Mario 3!
